2006 10 30 : China!

End of Vietnam -> Beginning of China

Take care,

anthony
Our last couple days in Vietnam we spent motorbiking around the mountain region of Sapa. Motorbiking is so fun, i'm getting one for sure when i get home. I'm going to start a bike gang!
This is a view of the road we were motorbiking on in North East Vietnam. The drive was super fun and beautiful, a couple close encounters but that's expected in Vietnam, check out the curves in that road! So fun!
Life and agriculture in Vietnam.
After Northern Vietnam we headed further north up into China. Our first stop was Kunming, last night we road an all night bus for 10 hours over one of the bumpiest roads I've been on for a long time, reminiscent of off roading in BC, the Chinese drive huge buses full of people on that. Needless to say i didn't get much sleep but today was interesting. Life is much different than Vietnam, everything is really clean, nobody is trying to sell you shit all the time, really really bizarre feeling, life is a lot easier here. Check out this road, you think that would be anywere in Vietnam...
This was our dinner tonight, all the meat arrives raw and you cook it in the super hot soup broth. Really good but interesting, lots of meats and items I at which i had no idea what they were... yikes.
This was dessert, chicken foot! Just tasted like chicken skin to be honest. weird mentally though. When in Rome...

2006 10 26 : Halong Bay/Hanoi

posted by Anthony Boronowski
So... we're in Hanoi.

We went to this spot called Halong Bay, which is a grouping of limestone outcropings/small islands coming out of the ocean, it's pretty amazing scenics, although you have to go with a tour. It's not really feasible to do it on your own. And, as we learned first hand, tours suck. But it's over, a weekend of being hearded around like sheep was enough for me.

Tomorrow we head up north to the Northern ethnic villages of Vietnam and then into China. I've contacted a art studio/project in a town called Lijang and I'll be hanging out a bit with them seems really cool, check it at www.lijiangstudio.org
Halong Bay, North Eastern Vietnam.
Stalictite formations in some caves around Halong Bay... reminds me of some of my friend Chili's work... check him out at www.chilithom.com
From the back of the local bus... was a pretty fun ride. Close quarters non-the-less.
Seafood's looking fresh at this place. Hungry?
Mountains off the peak of a hike we did in Halong Bay.
Looking the opposite way from the mountains at the same peak... bellow is Cat Ba village.
