2006 11 16 : NEPAL

I spent the last week in Nepal, basically waiting for an Indian visa. It's funny in life how some things so unexpected can be so great. Anyway, it's beautiful here and the people are amazing. Really into this country. But, with circa 1988 speed internet connections it makes it hard to update the site. So that's why the lack of updates and pics. Off to India tonight...

2006 11 13 : Indian Visa

I had to stand in line to apply to apply for an Indian Visa today... i stood in line for 5 hours... to apply to apply.

anyway, resulting in me reading Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in one sitting. Got me all stoked on Gonzo so here's a quote.

If I'd written all the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 people - including me - would be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism.

Kathmandu, Nepal tomorrow!

Please take time on the 11th to think about how lucky we all are... and what we have been given.

Take care,

anthony
Following our time in Litang, i headed north east to a tiny Tibetan village called Tagong. It's basically one street about 150 meters long. I stayed with a funny little family in their living room... all time. Anyway, this place was beautiful. We went for a walk around the surroundings, here's the river for the village.
This is a shot of some Yak hearders/farmers. We ended up hanging out with them for the evening, 8 dudes live in that white tent. With next to nothing they still took it upon themselves to feed us dinner. The native tibetans often eat a food called Tsampa which is barley powder with yak butter and hot water... it's actually pretty good and really filling. Anyway, they had nothing, one of the dudes didn't even have socks, so i gave him mine, i had a warm pair of ski socks on... was so greatful and stoked, over socks. Like Christmas morning style... i can't even remeber when i was stoked to get brand new socks, nevermind a used pair...
this is a photo of the river in kanding, kanding was just some random town where i had to spend the night on my journey. This is at 5.45 in the morning on the way to the bus. Thought it was pretty...
this is Chengdu. I fly from Chengdu to Kathmandu, Nepal tomorrow, i'm kinda stoked to get out of here. Big fan of Tibet, not so much of CHina. The contrast between Tagong and Chengdu is unsettling, and they're only 10 hours apart... such different forms of life.

2006 11 06 : more tibet than china

posted by Anthony Boronowski
I'm in Litang, China... it's one of the most beautiful places. It's really more tibet than china. Has been the highlight of my china experience by a longshot. The nomadic people in the above photos really put things into perspective.
the best bathroom yet, pissing on the left, shitting on the right. not much for privacy in China...
this is from the bus stop in litang, china. it's amazing here. more like tibet than china. at that it's a nice change...
more of litang...

today we travelled to a little nomadic village, this was part of their set up... these tents ringed the main part of the village and were white as monks lived in them, their whole existance was really something amazing. Living in super super cold climate off very little. They use the Yak for most of their life's needs, food, tent, butter, rope...
part of the camp, maybe about 1/10 of the total camp.
typical family tent
this is the creation of Yak butter, which is given out for meals and is the primary component of their diet. we were their during lunch and it is an absolute mad house, with mini monks running a mess. i had a bunch of yak today which was really tough but a nice change from the chinese cuisine as of late...
nomadic smile
Nomadic Kids
curious monks... kids are amazed with digital cameras. actually most of this village was amazed.
this girls was my dawg. she's a gangster...

So, I've been sick for the last 3 days. I think it's been 2 of the worst days i've had in 6 months, sick in China is a whole nother level, believe me, any bad feeling you normally have while sick is multiplied by 100, actually not multiplied more like exponentially increased by 100. Anyway, as a result i've not done any shit. Here's a couple photos though.
This is the stone forest in Kunming, China.

Caused by limestone being fused with more solid rock, then over years water decayed the limestone and you're left with this...
