The other night walking home from the bar I came across these on the street. They made me feel young again. I wondered how they got there. Were they done late at night on a rebellious excursion, or were they made during the day and managed to last until 3AM? And why don’t I go out at night and draw things which will make people smile? Hopscotch courses, bowling alleys, mazes. That would be fun.

2007 05 16 : PB&J

The other night I went to Peter Bjorn and John. I’m a fan of their music. Catchy hooks, combined with subtle melodies but not obnoxious enough to be overbearing Writer’s Block is an album which I can, or perhaps could, listen to over and over.

Live, Peter Bjorn and John sounded like shit. They came out flat and it didn’t improve. They seemed to be going through the motions, and it showed. They couldn’t replicate the longing, intricate parts of their album, it’s a shame as those are the things which make them different.

I’m of the mindset that if you can’t play live then I’m not really down with you. I think playing live is a true testament to a band's ability. And Peter Bjorn and John left me wondering if they’re a talented band or just over produced.

I try not to be negative on here, but if they’re coming to your town think about saving your money.

Here’s 1 track which still I love by PB&J.
Trevor: [ 2007-05-16 ]I know how you feel. This happened to me a few weeks ago, except for kind of a different reason. Anais Mitchell (who I've noticed you are a fan of) was playing a small show in my hometown (Sryacuse). I was going to drive home to check her out when I noticed that it was in a very small...church setting. When I went to the venues website I noticed that it was going to have a lot of "church goers" there. I don't know... it just wasn't the setting I wanted to see her at, yanno? In my mind I just didn't picture her there. It was a bummer.

You can't steal my obsession but you can borrow it.

And speaking of obsession, I'm reading a book called 'House of Leaves' by Mark Z. Danielewski. It's ingenious, i highly recommend it.

Danielewski's new book's web site.

Through this website I've had correspondence with lots of different people, often people I've never met or never would have had the opportunity to interact with. I find this one of the most intriguing aspects of running this blog.

I received this photo from Ian Fohrman, with a comment about how it's similar to a photo which I posted. I've posted both of the shots, Ian's on the top, mine on the bottom. Guess it’s a common view.

You can check out more of Ian's work at http://www.thepublicworks.biz/ian

Thanks for the shot Ian.
