This morning I awoke to new music. So good...

Wintersleep with a song called Archaeologists. Reminds me a bit of BSS. Check out more here: www.wintersleep.com

I went out sledding with Johnny D and Michelle Parker today, shooting for PBP's new film. I'm not really going to be in it, but it was rad to hang and shoot with Johnny again. Felt like old times.

I'm shooting for MSP this year which is a new thing for me, it's all new, new crew, new program. Change is good. I'm excited to be part of their film this year.

Here's some snapshots from today.
That's my truck. I'm a bawler. Yeah right... maybe if i did halfpipe i'd have a sick ride...
Michelle's a bawler too. Especially rocking that 600.
Here's Johnny.
Michee hiking.
View from our spot down to the sleds.
Seeing this view everyday is why I don't ski pipe...

2008 01 04 : Snow

The last two days have been crazy.

Michelle Parker got to town, and she's crashing at my place. So yesterday we went sledding, had a great day. Skied a bunch of lines, and generally had a rad day. At the end of the day we made a couple mistakes, and got stuck, really really bad. So bad that we had to abandon our sleds and ski out. A long way. We were literally 500 meters from a cat track, but with the amount of snow, the severity of the storm, and the night falling, we had to pull the plug and make the call to leave our sleds and ski down.

Today we went up and salvaged our neglected machines. Soaking wet and happy to have our sleds, it's been a whirlwind and exhausting two days.

This experience has really made me think about how unprepared I was. No lighter, no candle, no firestarter. It could have been a really long night if we had to stay up there. It was also a quick reminder of how powerful the mountains are, and the amount of respect those who venture into the backcounty have to have for them. To abandon ship and ski home is a defeating thing, but it was ultimately the right call...

Anyway, be safe and prepared if you're heading out there. Anyone can make mistakes. That's all i'm trying to say.

And here's a photo of a snowplow i took the other day.

Happy new year. May you all be safe.

A thought from one of my favorites, Bukowski. I found it fitting with the aging of a new year, and the life improvement resolutions which are often made and then broken.

Be Kind

we are always asked
to understand the other person's
viewpoint
no matter how
out-dated
foolish or
obnoxious.

one is asked
to view
their total error
their life-waste
with
kindliness,
especially if they are
aged.

but age is the total of
our doing.
they have aged
badly
because they have
lived
out of focus,
they have refused to
see.

not their fault?

whose fault?
mine?

I am asked to hide
my viewpoint
from them
for fear of their
fear.

age is no crime

but the shame
of a deliberately
wasted
life

among so many
deliberately
wasted
lives

is.

Charles Bukowski

And the rose on my desk.
